How to Show Up Authentically in Your Email Marketing
Prompts to Build Stronger Connections
Authenticity has definitely felt like a theme for 2025. At least for me it has. Being true to myself on both a personal and business level. With so much coming at us from social media and technology, it can be easy to live in a way that isn’t truly authentic to who you are. And in a business sense, we’re often told what we should be doing to see success—how often we should post on social media, freebies we need to create, and email sequences we must have.
Although it’s helpful and sometimes necessary to have business guidance, listening to all of the noise and “should-dos” can lead to feeling drained and confused. Soon, you look around, and what you’re doing for your business doesn’t feel authentic to you or your brand. With anything, there will naturally be tasks that are essential but aren’t your favorite. But if you’re spending your energy and time on things where your gut is telling you to do the opposite, I think that’s telling you something.
Not Being Authentic is Costing You
In business, you likely have competitors doing something similar. Your offerings might have a unique spin, but most often, the most unique part of your business is YOU. If you lose your authenticity by showing up in a way that you felt like you had to, would that impact whether customers/clients are drawn to you? What if you still did the thing that was important for your business, but followed your intuition and showed up in a way that felt good to you?
Email marketing is one of those things where showing up in an authentic way can easily get lost. There’s hope, though. You CAN see the benefits of email marketing while remaining true to your brand values and voice. And quite honestly, if you want to see the benefits of email marketing, it’s imperative that you show up authentically. In a world where AI is taking over many things, and we are overloaded with consuming content, the simple, genuine messages stand out.
Where Should You Start?
I’d recommend that you take a step back from your email marketing and spend time reflecting on the following prompts.
Email marketing might be one of those to-dos that isn’t always the most fun, but how you show up should and can be true to your brand, which might actually make it more fun. Don’t just throw something together because you feel like you have to. Be intentional.
When you’re creating a newsletter or a series of automated emails, go back to your reflections above and make sure you’re in alignment. If you’re feeling lost in your email marketing—whether that’s low email engagement, not knowing what content to send, or not taking any action because nothing feels right—use these reflections as your north star.
Not only will they help you market in a way that feels authentic to you and your brand, but they also will help you create emails that are more likely to resonate and build deeper connections with your subscribers.
